Renewable Energy Development In Times of Uncertainty

Written by Diana Wood | Nov 25, 2024 3:51:25 PM

With more than a dozen projects in various stages of development, our Breakaway Renewables division pays special attention to policies at State and Federal level. Following this recent election cycle we’re keeping close contact with our Trade organizations including: SEIA, Renewable Energy Vermont, Maine Renewable Energy Association, and Clean Energy New Hampshire.

For those already in the business of renewables, you know the deal, but for those unfamiliar with all of the factors that affect renewable energy projects these include: state & local permitting, energy policies, utility rates, federal tax incentives such as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), interest rates, trade tariffs and more. We also closely watch any changes to Net Metering rates.

Many of these topics may be impacted by new policies from incoming elected officials and all of them factor into how a project “pencils out”. We have developed an excellent process for project evaluation that takes this information into account, and we continuously adapt project scenarios based on new information.

Yes, we are watching closely for potential impacts of the new Trump Administration.

After the election, numerous member organizations organized webinars and discussions regarding potential modifications to aspects of the IRA. We are highly confident in our ability to successfully navigate the coming years.
